BALLYGOWAN FLUTE BAND
Tom Birkett was born in 1917 in Whitehaven and joined the Coldstream Guards in 1936. He became a drummer and subsequently a drum major and bandmaster, and he later turned his hand at composing. His march “Hazelmere” is frequently played in March Pasts and Trooping of the Colour.
